Robert Jones, born on April 4, 1987 in Merseyside, England, is an English football referee who has made significant progress in professional refereeing. He started his career in local leagues and, after demonstrating his ability, was promoted to the English Football League (EFL) in 2016.
In 2019, Jones made his debut in the Premier League, the highest category of English football, establishing himself as the main referee in this competition. His performance earned him a place on the FIFA international referees list in 2023, expanding his participation to national team matches and European competitions.
Throughout his career, he has officiated matches in various competitions, including the FA Cup, the EFL Cup, and international tournaments such as the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Conference League. Jones is a member of the Cheshire Football Association and the Wirral Referees’ Association, and due to his Merseyside roots, he does not referee matches involving local teams Liverpool and Everton to avoid possible conflicts of interest.
