Pablo Gastón Echavarría, born on March 7, 1982 in Punta Alta, Argentina, is a football referee who has gained recognition nationally and internationally. He made his debut in the top category of Argentine football in 2017, officiating the match between Atlético Tucumán and San Martín de San Juan in the twenty-seventh round of the 2016-17 Primera División Championship.
In 2022, Echavarría was included in the FIFA international referees list, representing Argentina in international competitions. During the 2024/2025 season, he has been appointed to officiate prominent matches, including the Argentine Cup semifinal between Boca Juniors and Vélez Sarsfield in November 2024.
His refereeing style is characterized by a consistent application of the regulations and effective communication with players, allowing him to maintain control during matches. However, in March 2024, he faced criticism when, after a match between Boca Juniors and Racing Club, he asked for the jersey of forward Edinson Cavani, sparking a debate on refereeing impartiality.
Despite the controversies, Echavarría continues to be a respected figure in Argentine refereeing, demonstrating his ability to handle high-pressure matches both nationally and internationally.
