About Hernán Mastrángelo

Hernán Mastrángelo, born in 1981 in Buenos Aires, is one of those referees who have known how to move confidently in Argentine football. With more than a decade navigating the country's most demanding fields, he has officiated in Superliga, Copa de la Liga, and Copa Argentina, leaving his mark on each tournament.

He is recognized for his diplomatic and calm style, one that seeks words before cards, although he does not hesitate to penalize when the situation warrants it. He demonstrated this in the Racing - Boca match in September 2024, a classic full of tension, where he managed to maintain composure and control a game played on the edge.

But like any experienced referee, he has also had his controversial episodes. In November 2024, in a Huracán - Boca match, a penalty awarded in favor of Huracán and later canceled by the VAR put him under the scrutiny of the press and fans, in a day of tough decisions.

Outside Argentina, he has also made his mark. He was an AVAR in the South American Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, in the match between Chile and Venezuela, confirming that his name is gaining strength internationally.

Mastrángelo is one of those referees who seek balance: firm when necessary, but always willing to listen before punishing.
