Mario Melero López is a Spanish referee born on July 2, 1979 in Malaga. Standing at 1.90 meters tall, he has been part of the Andalusian Referees Committee since the beginning. In addition to his refereeing career, he holds a degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences from the University of Granada and works as a Physical Education teacher.
He started his refereeing career in lower categories and, after six seasons in the Second Division, he moved up to the First Division in 2014. Since then, he has officiated numerous matches in the top category of Spanish football. In the 2024/2025 season, he has officiated 11 LaLiga matches, showing a total of 37 yellow cards and one red card.
Melero López is known for his balanced refereeing style, combining firmness in enforcing the rules with the ability to communicate with players. His approach aims to maintain control of the match without resorting excessively to disciplinary sanctions.
