About Sandro Schärer

Sandro Schärer, born on June 5, 1988 in Schübelbach, Switzerland, is a Swiss football referee with a remarkable international career. He started his career in the Swiss Challenge League in 2011 and moved up to the Swiss Super League in 2013. Since 2015, he has been an international FIFA referee. 

In August 2024, Schärer was appointed to referee the UEFA Super Cup between Real Madrid and Atalanta at the National Stadium in Warsaw, a recognition of his growing prestige in European refereeing. 

During the 2024/2025 season, he has officiated matches in various competitions, including the Swiss Super League, the UEFA Champions League, and the UEFA Nations League. For instance, on August 21, 2024, he officiated the Champions League qualifying match between Dynamo Kyiv and RB Salzburg, which ended 0-2 in favor of the visiting team. 

Schärer is known for his meticulous refereeing style and his peculiar habit of writing the cards on the palm of his hand instead of using a traditional notepad, which has drawn attention on several occasions. 

In addition to his refereeing career, Schärer is a school teacher and a ski instructor, demonstrating remarkable versatility in his professional activities.
