Davide Massa is an Italian referee with a firm character and a rigid and disciplined style. He made his debut in the Serie A in 2011 and received the FIFA badge in 2014, allowing him to officiate in the Champions League and the Europa League.
His refereeing is characterized by little room for interpretation, often showing yellow and red cards. In the 2017 Italian Supercup, he officiated the final between Juventus and Lazio, a tense match that ended with a 3-2 victory for the Romans.
One of his most controversial moments occurred in 2023, when in the Coppa Italia, he sent off Romelu Lukaku after his goal celebration, in a context of racist insults. This decision sparked a strong debate about refereeing criteria.
Despite the controversy, Massa remains a reference referee in Italian and European football, respected for his authority and rigor.
