Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, born on March 16, 1986 in Bilbao, has been a La Liga referee since 2015 and a FIFA international referee since 2018. He is known for maintaining control of matches without excessive card use.
One of his most remembered performances was in the 2017 Spanish Super Cup, when he sent off Cristiano Ronaldo at Camp Nou, leading to a slight push from the player and an additional sanction.
In 2025, he officiated the Spanish Super Cup semifinal between Real Madrid and Mallorca, besides being involved in recent controversy in the Copa del Rey due to controversial decisions. His style is marked by being diplomatic and balanced.
