About César Soto Grado

César Soto Grado, born on June 17, 1980 in Candeleda, Ávila, is a Spanish referee affiliated with the La Rioja Referees Committee. He debuted in the Spanish La Liga in the 2019-2020 season and, to date, has officiated more than 110 matches in the top division.

His refereeing style is characterized by a firm and unflappable demeanor, allowing him to handle high-tension matches without being affected by the environment. This attitude has earned him the respect of players and coaches.

However, he has also been involved in controversial situations. In the January 2023 derby, corresponding to the Copa del Rey quarterfinals, Real Madrid came from behind to win 3-1 in extra time. Atlético Madrid expressed their discontent over a foul by Dani Ceballos on Thomas Lemar that, in their opinion, should have resulted in a second yellow card for the Madrid player.

In addition to his refereeing career, Soto Grado is a primary school teacher, which gives him an additional dimension in managing groups and pressure situations.

In recognition of his work, he was chosen as the best referee of the previous season by his peers, thanks to his professional approach and meticulous preparation.
