About Glenn Nyberg

Glenn Nyberg, born on October 12, 1988 in Säter, Sweden, is a Swedish football referee who has gained international recognition. He began his professional career in 2008 and has been officiating in the Allsvenskan, the highest tier of Swedish football, since 2013. In 2016, he was included in the FIFA's list of international referees.

Throughout his career, Nyberg has officiated more than 400 matches, including games in European club competitions and national team events. In June 2023, he was appointed to referee the FIFA U-20 World Cup final between Uruguay and Italy, a recognition of his performance in youth tournaments.

In April 2024, during a UEFA Champions League quarter-final match between Bayern Munich and Arsenal, Nyberg was involved in a controversial decision by not awarding a penalty for a deliberate handball by Gabriel Magalhães, leading to criticism from Bayern's manager, Thomas Tuchel.

During Euro 2024, Nyberg officiated the match between Albania and Spain, displaying his increasing presence in senior national team competitions.

On January 22, 2025, he was appointed to officiate the UEFA Champions League group stage game between Real Madrid and RB Salzburg, marking his debut in refereeing a Madrid side in this competition.

Nyberg is known for his meticulous refereeing style and his focus on mentoring future referees, running a training club and advising young officials.
