Arai Hallam is an English referee who, before taking up the whistle, tried his luck as a professional footballer in teams like Stevenage and in Spanish leagues. After being released by Stevenage in 2012, he decided to stay connected to football from another perspective: refereeing.
He began his refereeing journey in grassroots football, gradually ascending in the categories of English football. In November 2024, Hallam made his debut in the Championship, the English second division, officiating the match between Norwich City and Bristol City. This game marked a milestone in his career, consolidating him as an emerging referee on the national scene.
In addition to his work on the field, Hallam serves as a Senior Referee Officer at the FA Centre of Refereeing Excellence (CORE), where he focuses on identifying and developing referees with potential to progress in the English refereeing system. His experience as a former player gives him a unique perspective, allowing him to understand the dynamics of the game and communicate effectively with the players.
Regarding his style, Hallam is known for his calm and communicative approach. He prefers to manage matches through dialogue, seeking to maintain the flow of the game and avoiding unnecessary interruptions. This methodology has earned him the respect of both players and coaches.
