Daniel Siebert, born on May 4, 1984 in Berlin, Germany, is a German football referee with a distinguished career both nationally and internationally. He began his refereeing career in 1998 and was appointed as a referee by the German Football Association in 2007. He debuted in the 2. Bundesliga in 2009 and in the Bundesliga in the 2012/2013 season. Since 2015, he has been an international referee for FIFA.
Throughout his career, Siebert has officiated matches in high-level competitions. In the 2020 Euro Cup, he refereed three matches, including the round of 16 match between Wales and Denmark. He also participated in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where he was in charge of matches such as Tunisia vs. Australia and Ghana vs. Uruguay.
In the 2024/2025 season, Siebert has continued to referee prominent matches. On September 19, 2024, he officiated the UEFA Champions League group stage match between Paris Saint-Germain and Girona FC, marking Girona's historic debut in this competition.
Siebert is known for his firm and fair refereeing style, applying the rules accurately and maintaining control of the matches. However, he has been involved in controversial decisions; for example, in the 2022 World Cup, during the match between Ghana and Uruguay, he was criticized for not awarding two potential penalties in favor of Uruguay, sparking debate among fans and analysts.
Outside of football, Siebert resides in Berlin and works as a sports scientist. His dedication and professionalism have established him as one of the most respected referees in international football.
