The Vasco da Gama Stadium, commonly known as São Januário, is the home of Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama, located in the eponymous neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Inaugurated on April 21, 1927, it was once the largest stadium in South America, and today remains the largest privately-owned stadium in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Its neocolonial style facade is protected by the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage, highlighting its cultural and architectural significance.

The stadium has an approximate seating capacity of 21,880 spectators and has been the venue for numerous sporting and cultural events throughout its history. In addition to the football field, São Januário sports complex includes the Vasco da Gama Water Park, the Cyro Aranha and Antônio Soares Calçada gymnasiums, the João da Silva Complex, and the Advanced Center for Prevention, Recovery, and Sports Performance (Caprres). It also houses the Vasco da Gama School and the Chapel of Our Lady of Victories, making it a multifunctional center for the club and the local community.

Due to its location on a hill, the stadium has earned the club the nickname “Giant of the Hill” (Gigante da Colina). Over the years, São Januário has witnessed countless historic moments, including memorable matches and significant victories for Vasco da Gama. It has also served as a training center for national teams during international tournaments, such as the 2013 Confederations Cup and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

In recent years, plans have been proposed for the renovation and modernization of the stadium. In 2024, the Rio de Janeiro City Council approved a law allowing for the reconstruction of the São Januário Complex, with the aim of expanding its capacity and updating its facilities to meet international standards. These plans reflect the club's ongoing commitment to improving its facilities and providing an optimal experience for its fans and players.
