St James Park is the stadium of Exeter City Football Club, located in Exeter, England. Opened on September 10, 1904, it has been the home of the “Grecians” ever since. Currently, the stadium has a capacity of 8,219 spectators.
In the 1920s, the playing field was expanded, and the stand known as “Big Bank” was built. More recently, between 2016 and 2018, a significant renovation took place, including the demolition of the old main stand and the construction of a new one with seating for 1,600. This new structure was named the “Stagecoach Adam Stansfield Stand” in honor of forward Adam Stansfield, who passed away in 2010.
A unique feature of this stadium is its proximity to St James Park train station, located right next to the venue. This station is used by many fans to reach the stadium on match days, facilitating access and reducing traffic congestion in the area.
Notable events at St James Park include a women's under-21 international match between England and France in 2006, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Additionally, in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Exeter City fans showed their support for the team by placing cardboard cutouts with their images in the stands, an initiative that raised funds for the club and maintained the connection between fans and the team during difficult times.
