The Abe Lenstra Stadium is the football stadium of SC Heerenveen, located in Heerenveen, Netherlands. Inaugurated on August 20, 1994, the stadium is named after Abe Lenstra, considered one of the most outstanding footballers in the club's history. Currently, it has a capacity for 27,224 spectators.
Since its opening, the Abe Lenstra Stadium has undergone several expansions and renovations to accommodate the growing number of fans and improve its facilities. Originally, the stadium had a capacity of 14,500 seats, but in 2002 it was almost doubled, reaching 26,100 seats. Subsequently, more seats were added in empty areas, reaching the current capacity.
In addition to hosting SC Heerenveen's matches in the Eredivisie, the stadium has hosted significant events, such as international matches and national tournament finals. A curiosity is that, during the official inauguration, Prince Willem-Alexander performed the ceremonial kick-off in a match between SC Heerenveen and PSV Eindhoven, where the then young talent Ronaldo made his debut in Europe.
The Abe Lenstra Stadium is not only a symbol of football in Heerenveen, but also a meeting point for the local community, hosting various sports and cultural events throughout the year.
