The Stade du Pays de Charleroi, formerly known as Stade du Mambourg, is a football stadium located in the Belgian city of Charleroi. Inaugurated in 1939, it has been the home of the Royal Charleroi Sporting Club, known as 'Les Zèbres' due to their characteristic white and black colors. The stadium is located at Boulevard Zoé Drion 19, in the heart of the city.
For Euro 2000, the stadium underwent a major renovation that raised its capacity to 30,000 spectators, allowing it to host three group stage matches, including the memorable encounter between England and Germany, which ended with a 1-0 victory for the English. However, after the tournament, the capacity was reduced to 25,000 and subsequently to 15,000 in 2013, due to the removal of the upper stands due to lack of demand and structural issues.
The stadium has been the venue for various sporting and cultural events, including matches of the Belgian national team and concerts. It also boasts modern facilities such as VIP boxes, conference rooms, and catering services.
Currently, the Royal Charleroi Sporting Club has plans to build a new stadium in Marchienne-au-Pont, with a capacity of 20,000 spectators, expected to be ready by 2026. This new project aims to offer a multifunctional venue that hosts not only football matches but also concerts and other cultural events.
