This stadium was one of the venues for the 1982 World Cup, where the biggest win in World Cup history was recorded: Hungary 10-1 El Salvador. Additionally, it has hosted six matches of the Spanish national team and was the setting for the 2003 Copa del Rey final between RCD Mallorca and Recreativo de Huelva.

An interesting fact is that the Martínez Valero has the widest pitch dimensions in Europe, measuring 108 x 70 meters, making it a unique playing field on the continent.
