The Stade Vélodrome, officially known as Orange Vélodrome since 2016 for sponsorship reasons, is one of the most emblematic sports venues in France and the home of Olympique de Marseille since its inauguration on June 13, 1937. Initially designed with a cycling track that gave it its name, the stadium was conceived as a multipurpose facility, hosting events such as athletics, boxing, rugby, and cycling, including the Tour de France. Its first match was a friendly between OM and Torino FC, with a 2-1 victory for the home team.

With a current capacity of 67,394 spectators, it is the largest club stadium in France. It has hosted major events such as the 1938 and 1998 FIFA World Cups, the 1984 and 2016 UEFA European Championships, and the 2007 and 2023 Rugby World Cups. In 2014, it was completely renovated for Euro 2016, incorporating an impressive 65,000 m² white canopy that protects fans from the weather.

The stadium is famous for its vibrant atmosphere, especially during OM matches, where the fanbase creates an electrifying environment. This fervor has led to the Vélodrome being nicknamed “a volcano” for its intensity and passion. Additionally, the stadium has hosted concerts by renowned artists, such as Pink Floyd and Madonna, although the latter event was marked by a tragic accident during stage construction in 2009.

Located in the 8th district of Marseille, the Vélodrome is not only a sports symbol but also a cultural and social gathering place for the people of Marseille. Its history and evolution reflect the city's passion for sports and its ability to adapt and modernize, establishing itself as a reference point in European football.
