Sobre Michael Salisbury

Nacido en 1985 en Penwortham, Lancashire, Salisbury no solo heredó la pasión por el fútbol, sino también la vocación arbitral de su padre, Graham Salisbury, un veterano árbitro con más de dos décadas de experiencia en la English Football League. Desde joven, Michael estuvo inmerso en el mundo del arbitraje, acompañando a su padre y aprendiendo los matices del juego desde una perspectiva única.

Su carrera profesional despegó en 2010, cuando participó como árbitro asistente en la English Football League. Con dedicación y un enfoque meticuloso, ascendió rápidamente, debutando como árbitro principal en la Vanarama National League durante la temporada 2015-2016. Su talento y consistencia lo llevaron a ser promovido a la League Two al año siguiente.

Uno de los momentos más destacados de su trayectoria fue el 29 de junio de 2020, cuando dirigió la final del play-off de la EFL League Two en Wembley, donde el Northampton Town superó al Exeter City con un contundente 4-0. Este encuentro no solo consolidó su reputación, sino que también demostró su capacidad para manejar partidos de alta presión con aplomo y justicia.

En la temporada 2021-2022, Salisbury dio el salto a la Premier League, debutando en un enfrentamiento entre el Aston Villa y el Crystal Palace en Selhurst Park. Su estilo de arbitraje se caracteriza por una interpretación estricta y precisa de las reglas, lo que le ha valido tanto elogios como críticas en diferentes momentos de su carrera.

Sin embargo, el camino no ha estado exento de desafíos. En abril de 2023, durante un partido entre el Brighton & Hove Albion y el Tottenham Hotspur, Salisbury, actuando como oficial del VAR, fue objeto de controversia al no intervenir en una jugada que muchos consideraron penalti claro. Este incidente llevó a una disculpa oficial del PGMOL y a su posterior ausencia en las designaciones arbitrales de la Premier League en las semanas siguientes.
