Gavin Ward is an English referee born in November 1978 in Surrey, England. He began his refereeing career in the English Football League (EFL) in August 2008, officiating in a match between Milton Keynes Dons and Northampton Town in League One. Throughout his career, he has officiated over 200 games in the Championship, League One, and League Two.
In the 2018/19 season, Ward was promoted to the Select Group 2 of referees, allowing him to officiate more significant matches in the Championship.
Regarding his refereeing style, Ward is known for his communicative approach and ability to handle high-pressure situations calmly. However, he has been involved in some controversies; for example, in March 2021, during a match between Swansea City and Middlesbrough, one of his decisions generated controversy and led to an accusation of inappropriate conduct by coach Neil Warnock.
