The St. Mary’s Stadium, opened in August 2001, is the home of the Southampton Football Club, known as the “Saints”. With a capacity of 32,384 spectators, it is the largest football stadium in the southeast of England. This venue replaced the historic The Dell, where the club played for over a century.

The stadium features a full “bowl” design, with all stands at the same height, and two giant screens at each end, ensuring excellent visibility from any seat. The pitch measures 105 by 68 meters and has a Desso GrassMaster hybrid surface, combining natural grass with artificial fibers to enhance its durability.

A notable feature is the recent addition of a safe standing area in the Northam stand, which spans its entire length and is among the largest in the UK. This modification aims to enhance the atmosphere and safety during matches.

In addition to hosting Premier League matches, St. Mary’s has been the venue for international events, including matches of the English national team and games of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022. The club, in collaboration with the Southampton City Council, is exploring plans to expand the stadium and develop the surrounding area, with the goal of turning it into a prominent sports and entertainment destination on the south coast of England.
