The Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo, inaugurated in 1913, is the home of Venezia FC and stands as the second oldest stadium in Italy, surpassed only by the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa. Located on the island of Sant'Elena, at the eastern end of Venice, this stadium stands out for its uniqueness, as it is mainly accessible by boat, offering a unique experience to fans arriving through the lagoon.
Originally built in wood, the stadium was renovated in the 1920s with a main concrete stand. Over the years, it has undergone various modifications, especially after a tornado in 1970 caused significant damage, reducing its capacity to just over 5,000 spectators. In 1998, with the return of Venezia FC to Serie A, temporary stands were added, increasing the capacity to 15,000, although it was later reduced again. In 2021, after the club's promotion to Serie A, renovations were carried out to bring the stadium up to league standards.
With a current capacity of 11,150 spectators, the Penzo Stadium has witnessed memorable moments, including a record attendance of 26,000 people at a Serie A match against AC Milan in 1966. In addition to its use for football matches, the stadium has hosted other sports and cultural events, establishing itself as a landmark in Venice's sporting life.
