The Stade Raymond Kopa, located in Angers, France, is the home of Angers Sporting Club de l’Ouest (SCO). Inaugurated in 1912, the stadium has undergone several renovations over the years, adapting to the needs of modern football. Currently, it has a capacity for 18,752 spectators.
Originally known as Stade Bessonneau, in honor of the local industrialist who funded its construction, the stadium has changed names several times: Stade Municipal in 1957 and Stade Jean-Bouin in 1968. In March 2017, after the death of Raymond Kopa, legendary French footballer who began his career at Angers SCO, the stadium was renamed in his honor.
In recent years, the stadium has undergone significant renovations. Between 2017 and 2018, the Colombier stand, located in the south, with a capacity of 4,582 seats, was reconstructed. Subsequently, between 2020 and 2022, the Saint-Léonard stand in the east was renovated, now boasting 5,139 seats, including 25 VIP boxes. These improvements have brought the stands closer to the field, creating a more intimate and vibrant atmosphere for fans.
Despite its long history, the stadium has maintained its relevance and modernity thanks to these continuous renovations. Furthermore, on April 26, 1969, the stadium recorded its highest historical attendance, with 22,989 spectators in a match between Angers SCO and Olympique de Marseille.
