The stadium was built by the company Constructora ARVA S.A. de C.V. on land donated by the state government, at an approximate cost of 12.5 million pesos at the time.

With a current capacity for 31,297 spectators, the Nou Camp has hosted international events. It is notable for its participation in the 1968 Olympic Games, as well as in the FIFA World Cups of 1970 and 1986, hosting matches involving teams such as Germany, England, France, and the Soviet Union. Additionally, it was the venue for the 1983 Youth World Championship.
