Estadio León

El Estadio León, conocido popularmente como Nou Camp, es uno de los recintos más emblemáticos del fútbol mexicano. Ubicado en la ciudad de León, Guanajuato, fue inaugurado el 1 de febrero de 1967 con un partido entre Santos de Brasil y River Plate de Argentina, que culminó con victoria para los brasileños. El estadio fue construido por la empresa Constructora ARVA S.A. de C.V. sobre un terreno donado por el gobierno estatal, con un costo aproximado de 12.5 millones de pesos de la época .

Con una capacidad actual para 31,297 espectadores, el Nou Camp ha sido escenario de eventos de talla internacional. Destacan su participación en los Juegos Olímpicos de 1968, así como en las Copas Mundiales de la FIFA de 1970 y 1986, albergando partidos de selecciones como Alemania, Inglaterra, Francia y la Unión Soviética . Además, fue sede del Campeonato Mundial Juvenil de 1983.

El apodo “Nou Camp” se originó por la influencia del directivo catalán José Serra Sala, quien, inspirado en el estadio del FC Barcelona, comenzó a referirse así al Estadio León. Este sobrenombre fue popularizado por el cronista Ángel Fernández, consolidándose entre la afición esmeralda .

A lo largo de su historia, el estadio ha sido testigo de momentos memorables del Club León, incluyendo múltiples campeonatos de liga y participaciones en torneos internacionales como la Copa Libertadores y la Liga de Campeones de la Concacaf. En años recientes, se han realizado remodelaciones para modernizar sus instalaciones, incluyendo mejoras en la iluminación y accesos principales .

Actualmente, el Estadio León continúa siendo la casa del Club León, manteniendo su relevancia en el fútbol mexicano y su conexión con la afición.
