The Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, located in the Villa General Mitre neighborhood in Buenos Aires, is the home of the Argentinos Juniors Athletic Association. Inaugurated on April 27, 1940, it has witnessed emblematic moments in the history of Argentine football. Originally known as the Argentinos Juniors Athletic Association Stadium, in 2004 it adopted its current name in honor of Diego Maradona, who made his professional debut in this stadium on October 20, 1976, at the age of 15.
With a capacity for 22,023 spectators, the stadium has undergone several renovations over the years. The most significant one took place in 2003, when it was reopened on December 26 with a match between the 1985 Copa Libertadores champions and the team that was promoted to the First Division in 1997.
In addition to being the stage for Maradona's debut, the stadium witnessed Lionel Messi's first match with the Argentine national team on June 29, 2004, where he also scored his first goals with the albiceleste.
