Estadio de Mestalla

El Estadio de Mestalla, inaugurado el 20 de mayo de 1923, es el hogar del Valencia Club de Fútbol y se erige como el estadio más antiguo de la Primera División española. Ubicado en el barrio de Mestalla, entre la Avenida de Suecia y la Avenida de Aragón, debe su nombre a la histórica acequia de Mestalla, que los aficionados debían cruzar para acceder al recinto en sus inicios. 

A lo largo de su historia, Mestalla ha experimentado numerosas remodelaciones. Originalmente, contaba con una capacidad para 17.000 espectadores, pero tras diversas ampliaciones y mejoras, actualmente puede albergar a 49.430 aficionados. El estadio es reconocido por la pronunciada inclinación de su grada norte, lo que contribuye a crear una atmósfera imponente para los equipos visitantes. 

Mestalla ha sido escenario de eventos futbolísticos de gran relevancia. Durante la Copa Mundial de la FIFA de 1982, fue una de las sedes seleccionadas, y en los Juegos Olímpicos de 1992 albergó partidos de fútbol, incluyendo la final en la que España se alzó con la medalla de oro. Además, ha acogido numerosas finales de la Copa del Rey y partidos internacionales de la selección española. 

Una curiosidad notable es que, desde 1969 hasta 1994, el estadio fue rebautizado como Estadio Luis Casanova en honor al entonces presidente del club. Sin embargo, a petición del propio Casanova, en 1994 se restituyó su nombre original, Mestalla. 

Actualmente, el Valencia CF está trabajando en la construcción del Nou Mestalla, un nuevo estadio que sustituirá al actual. Las obras, que comenzaron en 2007, han sufrido múltiples retrasos debido a problemas financieros, pero se han reanudado recientemente con el objetivo de que el equipo pueda trasladarse a su nuevo hogar para la temporada 2027-2028.
