The Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, located on the hill of Montjuïc in Barcelona, is a sports and historical emblem of the city. Inaugurated in 1929 for the International Exhibition, it was designed by the architect Pere Domènech i Roura. Originally known as Estadi de Montjuïc, its construction was part of Barcelona's bid for the 1936 Olympic Games, which were ultimately held in Berlin.

The stadium underwent a major renovation between 1985 and 1989, led by the architect Vittorio Gregotti, to become the main venue for the 1992 Olympic Games. During these games, it hosted the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the athletics competitions. With a current capacity of 55,926 spectators, it is the sixth largest stadium in Spain and the second in Catalonia.

Throughout its history, the Estadi Olímpic has been home to several sports teams. RCD Espanyol played there between 1997 and 2009, and since the 2023-2024 season, FC Barcelona has been using the stadium as a temporary venue while renovations are carried out at Camp Nou.

The stadium was renamed in 2001 in honor of Lluís Companys, President of the Generalitat de Cataluña during the Spanish Civil War, who was executed at the nearby Montjuïc Castle in 1940.
