The Juan Carmelo Zerillo Stadium, popularly known as “El Bosque”, is the home of Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, located at the intersection of Avenida 60 and Calle 118, within the Paseo del Bosque park in La Plata, Argentina. Inaugurated on April 26, 1924, this stadium owes its name to Juan Carmelo Zerillo, club president between 1929 and 1931, a period during which Gimnasia won its first official title in 1929.
With an approximate capacity for 30,973 spectators, the stadium has undergone various renovations throughout its history. Originally, its stands were made of wood, but after an incident in 1959 where one of them collapsed during a local derby, it was decided to replace them with cement structures to ensure greater safety.
A distinctive feature of “El Bosque” is its privileged location within the eponymous park, giving it a unique natural setting and a special atmosphere during matches. Besides being the venue for the matches of Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, the stadium has hosted prominent events, such as the Centenario Cup final in 1994 and a tennis exhibition between Juan Martín del Potro and Lleyton Hewitt in 2013.
In 2024, on the occasion of the stadium's centenary, significant reforms were carried out to modernize its facilities and enhance the fans' experience. These improvements included expanding the capacity, renovating the stands, and updating the lighting and sound systems, establishing the Juan Carmelo Zerillo Stadium as an icon of Argentine football.
